A really lovely print, this is originally part of a large collection of 30 paintings called Doshoku Sai-e (Colourful Realm of Living Beings). The painting was created around 1759 and is noted for its intricate brushwork and vibrant depiction of nature - the vivid male cockerel with the quieter hen. The original painting is held by the Museum of the Imperial Collections in Japan. A super decorative study of the cockerel, hen and Hydrangeas - amazing detail.
